Thunderbit Review 2026: Cheap AI Scraping, Expensive Mistakes

ByWhatAllSay EditorialFact-checkedUpdated Aug 12, 20268 min read
VerdictTry the free tier first

Thunderbit is a genuinely cheap AI scraper at $9 to $16.50 a month on annual billing, and it handles simple product and listing pages well. The risk is billing: buyers report credits draining on failed scrapes, and refunds are limited to a 48-hour window on annual plans. Start free, upgrade only after it works on your pages.

A compiled score, not a hands-on one. Built from nine sources read in August 2026 and weighted toward the ratings with real volume behind them. The product scores well on ease of use and price, and loses points on billing transparency and accuracy at scale.

How we judged Thunderbit

How we made this estimate

We did not test Thunderbit ourselves. This verdict is compiled from nine sources read between March and August 2026: the vendor's own pricing page and cancellation and refund policy, the Chrome Web Store listing, verified-customer ratings on Trustpilot, Product Hunt and G2 review summaries, a Capterra listing, and two independent review write-ups.

Every price and policy below comes from a vendor page. Every experiential claim is attributed to the customers or listings that made it.

What Thunderbit actually does

Thunderbit is a Chrome extension that turns a webpage into spreadsheet rows. You open a page, click AI Suggest Columns, and it proposes the fields worth extracting, then exports to Excel, Google Sheets, Notion or Airtable.

The company was founded in 2023 and runs remote-first, with support at [email protected] and no published head office. Its own site claims more than 200,000 active users and 100 million pages scraped.

Three things sit around the core scraper. There are 40-plus prebuilt templates for named sites (Amazon, Zillow, eBay, TikTok, Craigslist), and the vendor states these return fixed fields with no AI credits used.

There is also a free tool index of roughly 200 browser utilities, including an email extractor, a phone number extractor, a bulk email verifier and a set of Amazon seller calculators. For developers, a Web Scraper API, a CLI and an MCP server sit on top of the same engine.

What you are really paying for

Pricing is credit-based, and the credit maths is where buyers get caught. These figures come from the vendor's pricing page, read on 12 August 2026.

Plan Monthly Billed yearly What you get
Free $0 $0 6 pages a month, up to 30 credits per page, no card required
Starter $15/mo, 500 credits a month $9/mo, 5,000 credits for the year Bulk scraping, up to 5 scheduled scrapers
Pro $38/mo $16.50/mo, tagged 31% off and limited time 30,000 credits released upfront
Business Custom pricing Custom credits and limits, priority support
Web Scraper API Quoted, no public price Scraping inside your own application

Annual billing takes 20% off the monthly rate across the board and releases the full credit allowance immediately. That is a real saving, and it is also the trap. Annual means one upfront charge: a Trustpilot reviewer in March 2026 reported being billed $199 in one go after signing up at what they read as $16.58 a month.

The free plan is deliberately narrow. Six pages a month is enough to test whether the AI reads your target site correctly, and no more. Subpage scraping, bulk scraping, pagination and data enrichment all sit behind Starter.

Refunds are tight. The vendor's policy allows a refund only on annual plans, only if no credits have been used since payment, and only within 48 hours of the initial payment. Monthly plans are non-refundable. Cancelling at any point keeps access until the current period closes, which is normal and worth knowing.

If you take an annual plan, test nothing until you have decided to keep it. Spending a single credit inside the 48-hour window forfeits the refund.

What almost every source agrees on

The praise is consistent across platforms and unusually specific: it is fast to set up, and non-technical people get usable rows out of it without touching a selector. Chrome Web Store reviewers describe it as having an intern do the copy-pasting. G2 customers repeat the same point about easy setup and time saved.

The criticism is equally consistent, and it is not about features. It is about credits and billing.

Source What it says Checked
Chrome Web Store 4.2 out of 5 from about 170 ratings, 100,000 installs Aug 2026
Trustpilot TrustScore 3.3 out of 5 from 31 reviews Aug 2026
Product Hunt 4.7 out of 5 from 4 reviews; previously #1 Product of the Week Aug 2026
G2 Setup speed praised, credit pricing called expensive; no volume score published Aug 2026
Capterra Listed with no customer reviews Aug 2026

Where the sources contradict each other

The spread between 4.7 on Product Hunt and 3.3 on Trustpilot is the whole story of this product, and it is not noise. Those populations are different. Product Hunt's four reviews come from early adopters rating a launch. Trustpilot's 31 come disproportionately from people who had a billing problem and went looking for somewhere to say so.

Weight the Chrome Web Store's 4.2 from roughly 170 ratings most heavily. It has the volume, and it comes from people using the tool rather than reacting to it.

Two smaller mismatches are worth flagging. Thunderbit's own site claims 200,000-plus active users while the Chrome Web Store reports 100,000 installs, so the larger figure presumably counts web accounts too. And coupon aggregators advertise headline savings of $140 and $300 a year that we could not corroborate anywhere on the vendor's own pages. Treat those as marketing until checkout says otherwise.

What works and what stings

Strengths

  • Chrome Web Store customers consistently report a two-click workflow that needs no selectors or coding
  • Cheapest credible entry point in its category: $9 a month on annual Starter, against $49 a month for Apify and $119 a month for Octoparse according to 2026 comparison round-ups
  • Templates for 40-plus named sites return fixed fields with no AI credits used, per the vendor
  • Roughly 200 free browser tools and exports to Sheets, Excel, Notion and Airtable on every tier including free
  • A real free plan with no card required, so you can test the AI on your own pages before paying

Sore points

  • Multiple Trustpilot customers report credits being consumed by scrapes that returned the wrong data, with one describing a header-mapping failure that produced thousands of junk rows
  • The refund window is 48 hours, annual plans only, and void the moment a credit is spent
  • Customers report the annual price being charged as a single upfront sum they had not expected from the per-month figure shown
  • Chrome Web Store reviews flag login and registration failures alongside cancellation difficulty
  • Pagination and subpage handling on sites without a clear next button are reported as unreliable, which undercuts the bulk use case
  • Business and API tiers publish no prices at all

Who should use it, who should not

Buy it if your scraping is small, occasional and structured: a few hundred product listings, a directory of local businesses, a competitor's pricing page once a week. At $9 a month that is cheap enough to be worth the odd wasted credit, and the templates cover most of the sites people actually target.

Skip it if you are running high-volume or mission-critical extraction, if your targets are heavy JavaScript applications or paginate without a next button, or if you need a refund path longer than 48 hours. Developers who can write a scraper will find the credit model expensive for what it does.

  • Start on the free plan and scrape your six pages before spending anything
  • Annual billing saves 20% but arrives as one upfront charge
  • A failed scrape can still cost credits, so test on cheap pages first
  • Refunds close 48 hours after payment and only on annual plans

Better picks for heavier scraping

Three alternatives come up repeatedly in 2026 comparison round-ups.

Browse AI is the pick if the job is monitoring rather than extracting. It is built around scheduled runs and change alerts, where Thunderbit's scheduling caps at five scrapers on Starter.

Apify starts around $49 a month on usage-based billing and expects some development work. Choose it when you need custom logic, proxies and scale rather than a two-click extension.

Octoparse starts around $119 a month with a free tier of 10 tasks. It is heavier to learn and considerably more expensive, and it is the more established desktop option for complex multi-step crawls.

Questions buyers keep asking

Is Thunderbit legit or a scam?

It is a real company, founded in 2023, with a live product and 100,000 Chrome extension installs. The scam accusations on Trustpilot are about billing and refunds rather than the software not existing. The 3.3 TrustScore reflects genuine frustration with charges, not a fake product.

How much does Thunderbit cost?

Starter is $15 a month billed monthly or $9 a month billed yearly with 5,000 credits for the year. Pro is $38 a month monthly or $16.50 a month billed yearly with 30,000 credits upfront. Business and the Web Scraper API are custom-quoted.

Does Thunderbit have a free plan?

Yes. The free tier gives 6 pages a month at up to 30 credits per page with no credit card. It excludes subpage scraping, bulk scraping, pagination and data enrichment.

Can you get a refund from Thunderbit?

Only on annual plans, only within 48 hours of the initial payment, and only if no credits have been used since. Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable, though you can cancel and keep access until the period ends.

What is a Thunderbit credit and how fast do they run out?

Credits are consumed per page scraped, with a cap of 30 credits per page on the free tier. Several Trustpilot customers report them draining faster than expected, particularly when a scrape misreads a page and returns hundreds of unwanted rows.

Is Thunderbit better than Octoparse or Apify?

It is cheaper and far easier to start with. For scheduled monitoring, custom logic or high volume, Browse AI, Apify and Octoparse are the stronger tools and priced accordingly.

Bottom line

Thunderbit earns 6.8 out of 10 on compiled evidence, with moderate confidence: the pricing and policy facts are solid, the experiential picture rests on a few hundred public ratings rather than our own testing. It is the right tool for small, structured, occasional scraping jobs and the wrong one for anything you cannot afford to have come back malformed.

Test it on the free tier against the exact pages you care about. If the columns come back clean, the annual Starter plan is hard to beat on price. If they do not, you have lost nothing.
